Dear WWPR Supporter,

April was filled with great events at WWPR! Thanks to PR Newswire/Multivu, we were able to offer our members and supporters a networking opportunity at the Topaz Bar on April 6. We really enjoyed seeing new faces, and chatting with our long time members.

The April professional development brown bag at the National Museum of the American Indian was a great success! We'd like to thank everyone at the museum and the Smithsonian for helping us with this event.

April Professional Development ReCap

WWPR's April Professional Development Lunch was held on Wednesday, April 20 from 12:00-2:00 pm at the National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI) on the National Mall.

The lecture entitled "Where America's Heritage Begins" included the following panelists: Maggie Bertin, deputy director, external affairs; Thomas Sweeney, Director, external affairs; and Linda St. Thomas, associate director, Office of Public Affairs, Smithsonian Institution.

Each speaker discussed the integrated components of the most globally publicized opening of a cultural institution, which brought 80,000 Native Americans (representing more than 500 communities) to the National Mall on September 21, 2004 - one of the biggest milestones in our history.

The panelists gave us a behind the scenes look into the long term planning and implementation of the event. Including having to construct an entire Native American media list, as well as running up and down the five story spiral staircases with TV crews from The Today Show.

The Public Affairs Dept detailed the creative outlets that they utilized in order to continue the publicity and marketing efforts for the collection of over 800,000 objects.

The Grand Opening of the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian will forever exemplify one of our world's most unique and exceptional press media campaigns.

If you'd like to contact any member of the panel, please write Jennifer Bolick at jennifer@richfieldproductions.com.
