April "My Greatest Mistake and What I Learned
From It" Luncheon Recap
April's brown bag career development program, "My Greatest
Mistake and What I Learned From It" featured a powerhouse panel
of senior PR professionals sharing life-changing moments of failure
along their paths to career success. In the interest of learning
from others' experiences, the panel fostered an intimate dialogue
with the audience, encouraging them to relate some of their mistakes
as well.
Recurring themes in the discussion were:
- Be careful of what you say because you never
know who's listening.
- Pay close attention to the little details
and proofread, proofread, proofread!
- Never betray something told to you in confidence.
- Always be honest with your client even if
the news is bad and they don't want to hear it.
The panel included Lisa Ross, senior vice president of Ogilvy
Public Relations Worldwide, Denise Graveline, director of communications
for the American Chemical Society, Pattie Yu, one of the founders
of GYMR, and Debra Cabral, executive vice president of Dittus
Communications. Ross, Graveline and Yu are all winners of WWPR's
PR Woman of the Year award. Special thanks to Lisa Ross for hosting
the event at Ogilvy and to Denise Graveline for originating the
topic idea and moderating the panel.
